“As the Senate prepares to resume debate the “comprehensive” immigration reform bill, the legislation continues to face broad public opposition. In fact, despite a massive White House effort, public opinion has barely moved since the public uproar stalled the bill just over two weeks ago.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 22% of American voters currently favor the legislation. That’s down a point from 23% a couple of weeks ago and down from 26% when the debate in the Senate began. Fifty percent (50%) oppose the Senate bill while 28% are not sure.
Among the public, there is a bi-partisan lack of enthusiasm for the Senate bill. It is supported by 22% of Republicans, 23% of Democrats, and 22% of those not affiliated with either major party. It is opposed by 52% of Republicans, 50% of Democrats, and 48% of unaffiliateds.
From an ideological perspective, the bill is opposed by 59% of conservatives, 54% of liberals, and 45% of political moderates. Among those for whom none of the traditional ideological labels apply, just 20% are opposed.
Support is found from 20% of conservatives, 32% of liberals, and 18% of moderates.
Just 32% believe it would be better to pass the current bill instead of doing nothing. Forty-five percent (45%) believe it would be better to pass nothing at all.
If the current bill passed, 71% of American voters believe that another bill would be required to focus on securing the border and reducing illegal immigration. That’s up from 65% in our previous survey. “[...]
Of course, when does the Senate ever really vote for what their constituents want?

From Investor’s Business Daily
“War And The Media: Day after day, Americans are treated to a never-ending, mind-numbing parade of statistics about the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. But what about the terrorists?
One way the media distort Americans’ view of the ongoing war against terrorists is by focusing on just one side in the conflict: ours. Whether it’s the daily body count or alleged abuses at Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo, the public could be forgiven for thinking the U.S. is not only losing the war, but behaving badly in doing so.
But neither is true. This year, for instance, the U.S. has killed roughly 650 terrorists a month, according to published reports and Defense Department estimates. That compares with about 37 U.S. combat deaths per month, through May.
The ratio, thus, is about 18 terrorists killed in combat for every allied soldier killed. And that doesn’t include the current offensive in Diayala Province, Operation Arrowhead Ripper, which dispatched 159 enemy combatants in just the first five days.
Since the war began, we’ve lost about 70 troops a month. This compares with 526 a month in Vietnam, more than 900 a month in Korea and 6,639 a month during World War II.
In other words, by any meaningful metric employed, the U.S. is winning this war. But it will never be reported that way.”[...]
Here’s another interesting tidbit from the same article:
[...]“This is nothing new. Go back to Vietnam. Remember the “five o’clock follies,” when the press routinely ridiculed Pentagon casualty reports? The Vietnam syndrome continues to this day.
Only now it’s the media misreporting the numbers. Just weeks into the war in 2003, we started hearing the now-oft-repeated canard that Iraq was worse off with the U.S. than with Saddam. This is so plainly wrong that it must be called what it is: a lie.
And yet, it’s repeated to this day. Here again, the numbers tell the tale. In his 24 years as Iraq’s Stalinist supreme leader, Saddam Hussein killed at least 2 million people. That averages out to about 6,944 a month for the better part of three decades.“[...]
Emphasis mine

If you think the term “Speaker Pelosi” is scary, (and it is) here’s a piece in today’s Wall Street Journal that should REALLY scare you. The editorial points out who would get the various chairmanships in The House should the moonbats gain control after this year’s elections. The names are the same nightmares from the past, Dingell, Rangell, Conyers, Frank, Obey, etc. A bunch of bitter old men and women who have sucked at the public trough for years. Here’s something that is really scary:
We also can’t forget California’s Henry Waxman (1974), among the most partisan liberals and who at Government Reform would compete with Mr. Conyers to see who could issue the most subpoenas to the Bush Administration. And then there’s Alcee Hastings, who, should Ms. Pelosi succeed in pushing aside current ranking Member Jane Harman, would take over the House Intelligence Committee. Before he won his Florida seat in 1992, Mr. Hastings had been a federal judge who was impeached and convicted by a Democratic Congress for lying to beat a bribery rap. He would handle America’s most vital national secrets.
(Emphasis mine.)
If the American electorate is silly enough to elect a Democratic majority for the House, this fall, then the only good news is that Bush will be forced to use the veto pen for all the nonsense coming out of that chamber of Congress that isn’t shot down by The Senate.

CNN’s Robertson Now Admits: Hezbollah ‘Had Control’ of His Anti-Israel Piece
Posted by Rich Noyes on July 24, 2006 - 15:32.Better late than never? On CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday, CNN’s senior international correspondent Nic Robertson added all of the caveats and disclaimers that he should have included in his story last week that amounted to his giving an uncritical forum for the terrorist group Hezbollah to spout unverifiable anti-Israeli propaganda.
CNN just keeps destoying its credibility.
