Don’t Give Doyle Any Ideas

Posted by The Asian Badger on February 15, 2008

Pol Pot and his minions in the Legislature are hostile toward business. It could be worse…..we could have Eliot Spitzer (Shit for Brains-NY) as governor. Spitzer is the guy, you may recall, that put Strong Capital Management out of business. Strong was one of the top-rated mutual fund companies at the time.

Check this out.

New York recently finished 50th in Chief Executive magazine’s survey of the best states to do business. Respondents cited high taxes, regulation and Governor Eliot Spitzer’s “hostile image toward business.” The Governor, for his part, seems to have decided that if he can’t convince companies to move to the Empire State, he’ll simply have to govern them from a distance.

Eager to fund his proposed 4.8% budget increase this year (last year’s was 6%), Mr. Spitzer is attempting to force out-of-state retailers such as Amazon.com to collect New York state sales taxes. Readers of this page know that a 1992 Supreme Court decision called Quill prevents exactly this type of money grab. The Supremes ruled that forcing such obligations on companies with no physical presence in a state could cripple interstate commerce. Absent Quill, even small Web merchants would have to answer to literally thousands of state and local tax collectors.

The Governor argues that he can get to companies like Amazon through New Yorkers who run ads for Amazon on their Web sites. Nice try. If non-employees with some business relationship with a company were enough to establish physical presence, then Quill would be meaningless.

Rather than competing for the title of most-taxpayer-unfriendly state, Mr. Spitzer would be wise to consider ways to attract more taxpaying businesses. A good start would be improving New York’s overall business tax climate, which the Tax Foundation ranks 48th among the states, just ahead of New Jersey.

I should point out that NJ is also head by a Dem. FWIW, same study, from the Tax Foundation, ranked Wisconsin 39th as a place to do business.

Seriously Unhinged and Useless

Posted by The Asian Badger on December 13, 2007

The header on this post describes Nancy Pelosi, the most ineffective Speaker of the House in the history of that institution. Check out this little tidbit from Breitbart. Emphasis mine.

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lashed out at Republicans on Thursday, saying they want the Iraq war to drag on and are ignoring the public’s priorities.

“They like this war. They want this war to continue,” Pelosi, D- Calif., told reporters. She expressed frustration over Republicans’ ability to force majority Democrats to yield ground on taxes, spending, energy, war spending and other matters.

“We thought that they shared the view of so many people in our country that we needed a new direction in Iraq,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference in the Capitol. “But the Republicans have made it very clear that this is not just George Bush’s war. This is the war of the Republicans in Congress.”

Asked to clarify her remarks, Pelosi backed off a bit.

I shouldn’t say they like the war,” she said. “They support the war, the course of action that the president is on.”

“And that was a revelation to me,” she said, “because I thought the American people’s voices were so—and still are—so strong in this regard.”

Pelosi, who opposed the U.S.-led invasion from the start, said the war was “a catastrophic mistake.”

Despite being forced to make concessions on multiple fronts, Pelosi said Democrats have been fiscally responsible and attuned to the public’s concerns. As a result, she said, voters will reward Democrats in next year’s presidential and congressional elections.

Democrats “set a high water mark” on many bills, she said. “Where we have to come to is a different place,” thanks to the “political reality of not having a president of the United States. And nothing speaks more clearly to Democratic victories in the next election than when you see this is what is possible.”

In response, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in statement: “Republicans have stood on principle to protect current and future generations of Americans, whether it polled well or not. The success our troops are having in Iraq today is proof positive that our stance was the right one.”

Nancy, the fact that someone as stupid and naive as you are is actually in a position of responsibility is why the disapproval rating of Congress is where it is. Do America a favor and step down.

Henry Waxman

If you guessed Joseph Stalin, you were WRONG!!

It’s really Henry Waxman, Stalinist from California and opponent of free speech.

What a wonderful use of our tax dollars. Too bad Waxman and his little sycophants are unaware of the 1st Amendment.

Costa Rican Voters Smarter Than the Dems

Posted by The Asian Badger on October 9, 2007

From The Wall Street Journal Editorial Page 10/09/07 (Any emphasis mine.)

Free traders celebrated a victory Sunday when Costa Rica approved the Central American Free Trade Agreement in a national referendum, with 51.6% of the vote. The decision to expand commercial relations both regionally and with the large U.S. market is a triumph of Costa Rican hope and confidence over the fear peddled by opponents.

Cafta succeeded despite the extraordinary last-minute intervention against the deal by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Congressional Democrats. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Mike Michaud of Maine even traveled to San José to help anti-Cafta leader Ottón Solís in his bid to defeat the trade pact.

Their efforts seem to have backfired. When Costa Ricans looked into the voting records of Mr. Solís’s friends, they found their interests didn’t coincide. Democrats claimed Costa Rica could reject Cafta and retain preferential access to the U.S. market. But it turns out Mr. Sanders voted against trade preferences for Costa Rica in the House in 2000, as did Ohio’s then-Congressman and now Senator Sherrod Brown, who with North Dakota’s Byron Dorgan was also urging Costa Ricans last week to reject Cafta. Mr. Michaud is new to the House, while Ms. Pelosi and Messrs. Reid and Dorgan all voted against Cafta.

Voters seem to have trusted their own president, Oscar Arias, who warned that a “no” vote would transform the country from the Switzerland of Central America to “the Central American Albania, isolated by our own accord.” Costa Rica’s Congress must now pass implementing legislation by February 29, a process that will test the democratic bonafides of Mr. Solís. He said he would respect the outcome of the vote last week when his side was leading in the polls. Perhaps Ms. Pelosi will advise him that democracies honor election results.

It’s just unreal to me that Pelosi and her group of thugs tried to influence the vote in a foreign country. Too bad Costa Rica didn’t hold Sanders and Michaud for economic terrorism and then shoot them.

A Great Update from Powerline

Posted by The Asian Badger on October 4, 2007

As follow on to the “controversy” of Limbaugh and the phoney soldiers flap (the left should just shut it down on this point…the more they yap in Congress about Limbaugh the more ridiculous they look).

Anyway, the boys over at Powerline have come up with their own list of dems who HAVE insulted the troops and/or just told lies. Take a look, it’s worth your time…you may want to do it with a bottle of Maalox, though.

As Ed Morrissey points out over at Captain’s Quarters, the quotes in Powerline are from Real Democrats

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with Scott on his nomenclature. I wish these were phony Democrats, or even unimportant, fringe Democrats. As one reads the list, the reality of the Democratic Party hits one squarely, and that is that their leadership represents the worst of the organization. For instance, while Wes Clark demands that Rush Limbaugh be expelled from Armed Forces Radio, we hear nothing about barring Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid from its shows, even though Reid declared the war “lost” five months ago. That kind of defeatism does a lot more damage than anything Rush has to say, and yet Democrats don’t seem to mind it.

This Guy’s a Bigger Liar Than Doyle and Clinton Combined

Posted by The Asian Badger on September 13, 2007

(CNN) — Iran wants “peace and friendship for all,” the country’s president said Wednesday while again denying Western assertions his nation is pursuing nuclear weapons and trying to destabilize Iraq. But Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took a hard line against Israel, calling it “an invader” and saying it “cannot continue its life.”[...]

You really have to wonder what this guy is thinking. Here’s another sample.

[...]“As for allegations that Tehran is pursuing a nuclear weapon, Ahmadinejad said he resents the notion that Iran “has to obey whatever was put to us” and asked why there is no similar furor over American and British nuclear programs.

“Our bombs are dangerous, but American bombs are not dangerous?” he asked.

When the ITN interviewer asked if he could tour the Natanz nuclear facility in Iran, Ahmadinejad chuckled and asked him if he thought the United States or Britain would allow Iran to inspect their nuclear facilities.

“We do not need a bomb. We are against bombs, actually. There are many reasons we are against it,” he said. “From a political point of view, it’s not useful, we think.”

Frankly, it sounds like he’s running for President on the Dhimm Platform

Gutless Dhimms in Congress

Posted by The Asian Badger on September 12, 2007

This is not surprising at all. Here’s what really tells you all you need to know about the hatred the Dhimms in Congress have for the U.S.

[...]“Capitol Hill Democrats rejected a call for votes in both chambers to condemn the attack newspaper ad (pdf download), run by MoveOn.org, saying Republicans are trying to take attention off what they call the president’s failed Iraq policy.

Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the California Democrat “wished [MoveOn.org] wouldn’t have done that ad,” but declined to comment further.

A spokeswoman for House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, Maryland Democrat, also declined to comment on the ad.” [...]

Well, if the Dhimms don’t mind character attacks on one of the finest military men in the U.S.A. then I guess they won’t complain when their character (or lack thereof) is attacked, either.

Yeah, right.

EDIT: Just learned that Wisconsin’s Dhimmocratic Senators, Russ bin-Feingold and Herb, Where Am I? Kohl were reported to be in Waziristan for meetings and therefore not available for comment.

Osama Just Needed a Hug

Posted by The Asian Badger on September 12, 2007

If you think Jim “Pol Pot” Doyle is an idiot, consider this: You could live in Massachusetts and have Deval Patrick as your governor. Here’s what this hoople had to say regarding 9/11.

Among many other things, 9/11 was a failure of human understanding,” Patrick said. “It was a mean and nasty and bitter attack on the United States. But it was also a failure of human beings to understand each other, to learn to love each other.”

That’s right guv….just give them a hug and everything will be OK. What a maroon! (as Bugs Bunny would say.)

It was too much, even for The Boston Herald.

[...]“Governor, “mean and nasty” are terms better suited for a political campaign or a junkyarddog. Not for the worst terrorist attack ever on American soil.

We couldn’t help but be struck by the contrast between Patrick’s remarks and those of Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who in an oped in yesterday’s National Review On-Line correctly noted the “barbarism” of Islamic extremism and those who would target innocents to further their misguided cause.

“Our cause is the cause of defending liberty and freedom against a totalitarian movement that is the evil heir to the twin totalitarian threats of the 20th century,” wrote Lieberman, the Independent-Democrat from Connecticut. “Islamic extremism, like fascism and communism, seeks to eliminate all of the ideals that free peoples cherish.”

This isn’t just fretting over semantics. It speaks to a real misunderstanding of how Americans view the evil we confronted on that cataclysmic day, in the person of the hijackers and the masterminds behind the attacks.

We needn’t be blinded by rage. But neither is this anniversary a time for mealy-mouthed concessions to a lack of “human understanding.” If that is the prism through which our political leaders view the 9/11 attacks and the continuing threat we face, heaven help us”.

I’ve got a question for the moonbat governor of Massachusetts: Why not go to Iran and try and open a non-Islamic church? How about trying it in the Taliban strongholds? Promise them a hug when they shoot you for being an infidel.
