What’s This All About?

“WASHINGTON - U.S. fighter planes intercepted two Russian bombers flying unusually close to an American aircraft carrier in the western Pacific during the weekend, The Associated Press has learned.

A U.S. military official says that one Russian Tupolev 95 buzzed the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz twice, at a low altitude of about 2,000 feet, while another bomber circled about 50 nautical miles out. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the reports on the flights were classified as secret. [...]

Now, I really hope there’s more to this than is being reported. As a rule, NOTHING exists within a 150 mile radius of a carrier unless the carrier gives that object PERMISSION to exist. Why the F-18 pilots were not ordered to engage the Russian bombers, or at least warn them off is a complete mystery at this point.

This Guy’s a Bigger Liar Than Doyle and Clinton Combined

(CNN) — Iran wants “peace and friendship for all,” the country’s president said Wednesday while again denying Western assertions his nation is pursuing nuclear weapons and trying to destabilize Iraq. But Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took a hard line against Israel, calling it “an invader” and saying it “cannot continue its life.”[...]

You really have to wonder what this guy is thinking. Here’s another sample.

[...]“As for allegations that Tehran is pursuing a nuclear weapon, Ahmadinejad said he resents the notion that Iran “has to obey whatever was put to us” and asked why there is no similar furor over American and British nuclear programs.

“Our bombs are dangerous, but American bombs are not dangerous?” he asked.

When the ITN interviewer asked if he could tour the Natanz nuclear facility in Iran, Ahmadinejad chuckled and asked him if he thought the United States or Britain would allow Iran to inspect their nuclear facilities.

“We do not need a bomb. We are against bombs, actually. There are many reasons we are against it,” he said. “From a political point of view, it’s not useful, we think.”

Pakistan Gets With the Program

“MIRAN SHAH, Pakistan — Helicopter gunships and artillery on Tuesday bombarded two militant hideouts that had been used to launch attacks on security forces in a troubled tribal region near the Afghan border, the Pakistani army said.

Spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad said forces targeted a pair of compounds in Daygan, a village about 10 miles west of North Waziristan’s main town of Miran Shah after receiving “credible intelligence that militants were present there.”

It appeared to be the army’s toughest military action in the lawless border region after a month of escalating violence, and came a day after foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said Al Qaeda and the Taliban had no safe havens in the tribal zone.

Cobra helicopter gunships and artillery launched the attack early in the morning and it lasted about four hours, Arshad said. No ground forces were used in the assault, and there was no immediate word on militant casualties.

“The militants used to regroup and prepare attacks on security forces and take refuge at these compounds, so security forces targeted them,” Arshad told Dawn television, calling the compounds a “staging post.“[...]

I guess it’s in the category of nothing surprises me any more.

The two hooples* masquerading as Senators from Wisconsin, bin-Feingold (D-al Qaida) and Kohl (nobody’s Senator) have voted “no” on the Peter King amendment or the “John Doe” amendment. Michelle Malkin has the details here.

In a story linked to Ms. Malkin’s entry is a piece by Andrew McCarthy of the National Review Online.

“At least for now, the Democrats have killed Rep. Pete King’s amendment which would have provided protection from being sued for people who report suspicious behavior — like the Flying Imams’ simulated hijacking — in national security cases. Michelle Malkin has the details.

Maybe it’s me, but I just find this stunning. Asking whether, in this era (or, frankly, any era), you should be able to tell the police you saw something troubling without having to worry about it is like asking whether you should be able to breathe. It is common sense — if such a thing exists anymore in Reid/Pelosi America.

The Democrats’ maneuver here is also an obnoxious assertion of state power over the individual: If the state subpoenas you for information, you are compelled to provide it to the authorities whether you want to or not; but if you want to provide it voluntarily in order to protect your community, the Democrats say, “prepare to be sued.”[...]

I’d really like to see if the MJS will go and run an article to try and find out why the two hooples voted the way they did. The MJS won’t do it, though. Hell, I bet they won’t even run any article reporting this. As I say, nothing surprises me anymore.

A SEAL Writes on the War Against Islomofacists

This looks like a pretty interesting book. It goes on sale June 13th. Written by a Navy SEAL, he talks about his experience in hunting the bad guys. You can read Chapter 1 here.

Here’s a little gem at the end of the first chapter that made me proud to be an American. Except for the part about the drive-by media.

On the face of it, it’s pretty hard to believe. Looks like tax rates in Washington County will be going up to cover future legal obligations of the county.

“Board votes to deny funds to Cabela’s

West Bend - A slim majority of the Washington County Board today refused to contribute $4 million to Cabela’s Inc., rejecting a September 2005 board decision pledging the funds to the company as an incentive to build an outdoor gear store in Richfield.

The 165,000-square-foot showroom opened last September.

Several board members said they opposed giving tax dollars to a corporation.

County Attorney Kim Nass warned supervisors prior to the voting that there could be “risks” of not complying with the earlier agreement. She did not specify what those risks are.

Based in Sydney, Neb., Cabela’s Inc. is the nation’s largest direct marketer. Its stock trades under the symbol CAB on the New York Stock Exchange.”

Real stand-up bunch up on the Washington County Board. I hope Cabela’s sues the crap out of them.
